A Local's Guide to a Newport Summer

Happy summer!!! Newport is really kicking off and the Balance family is so excited for the upcoming season. Whatever your plans are this summer, add Newport to the list and come visit us and get to know our little hometown. There are so many interesting things to do that you don't see on the travel blogs. So take it from a local who is always looking for new things to do around town. Whether you are visiting for the first time or you are from RI and looking to try some new things, enjoy this list of our favorite things to do in the summertime!

1. Newport Film

Every Thursday night, the Newport Preservation Society hosts an outdoor documentary screening at 1 of many gorgeous locations around the town. Bring a towel or beach chair and a bottle of wine and enjoy the movie with friends. Entry fee is by donation and there are plenty of food trucks to enjoy as well.

2. Summer Concert Series held at Fort Adams

"Music at the Fort" will be held the 3rd Thursday of every month and will feature bands such as The Kane Brothers and The Ravers. Fun for all ages, free parking, and food trucks!!

3. Ocean Drive

While it is a popular destination for driving the rental scooters or flying kites, there are many parts to Ocean Drive that people never explore. Park the car and go for a walk through the paths! Or climb down to explore the little coves and beaches that are not visible to anyone driving by.

4. Eat!!

There are so many amazing places to eat downtown. But if you are looking for something still delicious but lowkey, here is the master list.

The Surf Club, Harry's Burger Bar, Friskie Fries, Winner Winner, Mission Burger, Cru Cafe, Diego's Cantina (Middletown)

5. Explore neighboring towns!

Portsmouth and Middletown add so much to this island and offer their own selection of beaches and places to eat! Also, Jamestown has amazing views and paths to explore. Also, Block Island is a sweet getaway for locals and an amazing way to spend the day. Don't be afraid to explore the state! There is so much that Rhode Island has to offer.

And of course, come shop downtown!! Thames Street hosts the best selection of shops and boutiques for all. And Balance is here too :) come say hi!
